About the Opportunity
The City of Asheville is excited to hire a full-time Permit Facilitator to join the Development Services Department. The purpose of this position is to perform intermediate technical work analyzing, expediting and processing a variety of information and data relating to the approval and issuance of construction related permits at the City of Asheville's Permit Application Center. What you'll be doing:- Assists customers both in person and on the telephone by answering technical questions related to the permit process, contractor licensing, fees and other requirements.
- Processes permit applications in consultation with applicants and other individuals and sources.
- Gathers information on property identification (addresses and ownership) in the processing of building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and other permits using location books, maps and data on the computer.
- Searches location and criteria of properties using GIS.
- Enter planning applications information into permitting software system.
- Reviews permits to verify completeness and coordinate permit data and approvals with other divisions, departments and agencies; insures that all permits are issued to satisfy departmental requirements, local and state laws; and, processes plans for submission to other divisions for approval.
- Coordinates and processes special approval processes such as certificates of compliance/occupancy, temporary utilities, temporary occupancy and ABC permits.
- Schedules inspections.
- Issues permanent Certificates of Compliance.
- Stores and disposes of permits, plans and related files in accordance with the State Records and Retention Schedule.
- Assists the Plans Reviewers with plan intake.
Supplemental Functions:- Performs other similar duties as required.
Benefits:Hiring rate: $ 22.46 per hour

About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
- Associate degree or two-year technical college, with some customer service and permitting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Required Licensing and Certifications:- None required but Notary Public a plus.
