About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Budget & Performance Analyst in the Finance Department. The Finance Department provides stewardship of the City's resources and supports informed decision-making through financial transparency and strategic analysis. This entry-level position will play a key role in preparing, submitting, and monitoring budgets for City departments.
What you’ll be doing:
Assist in the development, recommendation, and submission of departmental budgets
Review budget requests for completeness and consistency
Analyze and estimate revenue and expense trends
Monitor budgetary compliance and identify potential issues
Maintain and analyze departmental budgets for savings and funding availability
Enter and approve budget transfers and amendments
Develop and produce annual budget documents and narratives
Compile and monitor data in support of cost allocation plans
Conduct training on budgeting processes and software
Prepare budget reports, presentations, charts, and graphs for City Council committees and boards

Salary: $62,540.93 – $65,667.98 Annually

Performance aptitudes:
Ability to evaluate and analyze data using established criteria
Skill in working with others to coordinate complex programs and problems
Proficiency with computers and office equipment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to perform and apply mathematical calculations and financial reasoning
Capacity for independent judgment and creative problem-solving
Physical requirements:
Light physical effort in mostly sedentary work
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of light objects (5-10 lbs)
Frequent keyboard or workstation use
Ability to distinguish colors, sounds, and visual cues
Regular communication required
